A Postdoctoral position in organic synthesis in the Britton Research Group at Simon Fraser University is available starting January 1, 2022. A Ph. D. in organic chemistry with demonstrated expertise in complex molecule synthesis is required. Research projects may involve the (a) synthesis of nucleoside analogues, (b) target-oriented (e.g., natural product) synthesis, and (c) new synthetic method development including C-H functionalization and late-stage fluorination reactions. Projects (a) and (b) require advanced skills in stereocontrolled and multistep synthesis, purification of organic molecules including use of HPLC, and structural/stereochemical assignment using NMR spectroscopy. Project (c) additionally requires expertise in C-H functionalization reactions and/or late-stage fluorination chemistry.
Further qualifications include experience in writing and reviewing scientific manuscripts and grant proposals, good note keeping practices, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work with and lead teams of researchers.
